H3CBN, a mysterious cannabinoid that doesn’t bode well
With H3CBN, we are obviously making in France. Cock-a-doodle Doo ? Not really, because it's nothing to be proud of.
This molecule, which appeared on some dubious e-commerce sites in France in July 2023, has all the red flags : non-existent documentation, no tests carried out by an independent laboratory, no validation from the ANSM, no feedback from unwary consumers, etc. In fact, it's not even clear if its name, "H3CBN", refers to its true chemical formula. We'll come back to that in a little while.
CBN vs. H3CBN: Beauty and the Beast!
In H3CBN, there is CBN. And CBN is healthy and beneficial. See the marketing trick? CBN, or cannabinol, is in fact a cannabinoid that is found naturally in the cannabis plant. It is formed by the degradation of THC when the hemp ages or if it is exposed to air and light for a while.
Like CBD, CBN is not psychotropic and contains analgesic, relaxing and anti-inflammatory properties. It is a bit more sedative than CBD. This is why oils and capsules concentrated in CBN are effective against insomnia. CBN is also found in broad or full spectrum CBD oils and, as such, contributes to the “entourage” effect.
But H3CBN is far, very far from this pedigree. First, it is a synthetic molecule, which was therefore manufactured in the lab. Not that this is inherently bad, because most drugs are derived from synthetic molecules. Except that here, the process is not documented. Clearly, we know nothing of its composition. Two hypotheses have been put forward on the forums of hemp enthusiasts:
-
For some, it is simply a molecule of H4CBD mixed with CBN under a new name in order to circumvent the ban;
-
For others, it’s simply a little “boosted” THCP. As a reminder, THCP is a natural molecule which was recently isolated (2019) by Italian researchers. We talk about it here .
Here is a very interesting quote that we found on Reddit, an American social network, about H3CBN: “France represents a market far too big for 'we can afford to lose it', in reference to the stoppage of HHC supplies from the United States due to the ban. In short, it would seem that American suppliers are behind some of the new molecules that have been arriving here for some time, but there is nothing to prove it.
Why doesn't 321CBD offer H3CBN?
For the same reason that we never offered HHC (before the ban). Our catalog is exclusively composed of known molecules, validated by science, controlled by independent laboratories and 100% traceable.
We have always advocated for a new paradigm regarding the legality of cannabinoids. Rather than opening the market and banning new molecules once their harmful effects have been demonstrated, it would be more prudent to only authorize molecules that have been rigorously tested and which have demonstrated their safety.
At 321CBD, we do not exploit loopholes and gray areas in the law to make a profit at the expense of your health. You won't find molecules unknown to the battalion, no matter how lucrative they may be.
