Hemp oil for hair: before and after

The ancient Egyptians, Chinese and Indians all made use of hemp's emollient, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. While cannabis was mainly used for therapeutic purposes, notably to soothe acute pain, it was also used as a first-rate beauty product, whether to combat inflammatory skin conditions (including the scalp) or to restore strength and shine to dull, brittle hair.

Hemp oil and hair: what's in it for me? How to apply it for an impressive before-and-after effect? We tell you all about it in this practical guide!

Hemp oil and hair: what's the point?

When we talk about cannabidiol (CBD) and, more broadly, hemp legal in France, it is above all the analgesic, soothing and anti-inflammatory properties that are sought after. The overwhelming majority of French consumers who have integrated CBD flowers and oils into their daily lives wish to soothe mild to moderate pain, regain healthy and restorative sleep or even combat chronic stress.

But what will interest us today is rather the nutritive value of hemp oil, which contains essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals beneficial for health capillary.

Hemp oil and hair: essential fatty acids

Hemp oil is full of essential fatty acids, notably omega-6 and omega-3, with a ratio close to 3:1, ideal for human health . This proportion is beneficial for the hair because it promotes hydration of the scalp and hair shaft while reducing inflammation that can produce dandruff, itching and hair loss.

The fatty acids in hemp oil will also seal moisture inside the hair fiber to prevent dryness and breakage. They also penetrate the cortex of the hair to deeply nourish and strengthen the hair fiber.

Hemp oil has another benefit: it is rich in gamma-linolenic acid, a fatty acid from the omega-6 family that stimulates hair growth and nourishes follicles.

Hemp oil and hair: vitamin E

Abundant in hemp oil, vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant. Concretely, it will protect the lipids in hair cells against oxidative stress caused by free radicals.

By protecting cell membranes and lipids in the scalp and hair shafts, vitamin E therefore maintains the integrity of hair cells against UV rays and pollution. This action reduces the breakdown of lipids in the hair to preserve its hydration and flexibility and thus reduce breakage.

At the scalp level, hemp oil will improve blood circulation when applied topically, which will promote nourishment of hair follicles and stimulate hair growth. Finally, vitamin E plays a role in regulating the anti-inflammatory mechanism of the scalp to reduce or prevent itching and dandruff and calm seborrheic dermatitis.

Your hair before and after intake of vitamin E from hemp oil:

Vitamin E deficiency

Vitamin E intake

Dull and devitalized hair

Shiny and strong hair

Lack of flexibility, styling difficulties

Hair more supple and easier to tame

Hemp oil and hair: group B vitamins

Even if hemp oil does not contain all the B vitamins (no biotin and no vitamin B12), it remains interesting for filling certain deficiencies, particularly in vitamins B1, B2, B3 and B6.

Hemp oil is rich in vitamin B1 (thiamine)

Thiamin is involved in the energy metabolism of follicular cells where it participates in the conversion of nutrients into energy.

The application of hemp oil therefore ensures a good supply of thiamine and allows the cells of the hair follicle to have the energy necessary to support active hair growth. Technically, it facilitates the oxidative decarboxylation of ketones, an important process for cellular energy.

Hemp oil contains vitamin B2 (riboflavin)

Riboflavin acts as a coenzyme in redox reactions that contribute to the maintenance and repair of skin and hair tissues.

It promotes the maintenance of good hair health by participating in the conversion of vitamin B6 and niacin into active forms and by supporting the health of blood cells which supply the scalp with oxygen and nutrients.

Hemp oil, full of vitamin B3 (niacin)

Niacin, or vitamin B3, improves blood circulation to the scalp by dilating blood vessels and increasing blood flow to hair follicles.

Hemp oil will therefore promote the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the roots of the hair to stimulate their growth and reduce loss if it is not of androgenic origin. On a molecular level, niacin is involved in the synthesis and degradation reactions of fatty acids which preserve the cellular structure of the hair.

Hemp oil and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) intake

Vitamin B6 is involved in the metabolism of proteins, notably keratin, the main component of hair.

Vitamin B6 is involved in the synthesis of cysteine, a sulfur-containing amino acid necessary for the formation of disulfide bonds in keratin, which improves the strength and elasticity of hair.

Pyridoxine also acts as a coenzyme in the synthesis of niacin and in the metabolism of homocysteine, an amino acid which can harm hair quality if present in too large quantities.

Your hair before and after intake of B vitamins from hemp oil:

Hair with vitamin B deficiency

Hair after B vitamin supplementation

Slow growth and dull hair

Stimulation of growth and shinier hair

Impressive hair loss

Shedding reduced to the normal daily rate (less than 100 hairs per day)

Dry scalp, itching and dandruff

Nourished scalp, reduction of itching and dandruff

Weak and brittle hair

Strengthening the hair structure, less breakage

Loss of elasticity and flexibility

Soft, easy-to-style hair

How to apply hemp oil to hair?

Start with a small amount of hemp oil, about a few drops to a teaspoon, depending on the length and thickness of your hair. Apply the oil directly to the scalp with fingers. Massage gently in circular motions to improve blood circulation and promote absorption.

Then distribute the hemp oil over the lengths and ends of your hair. A wide-toothed comb can help you distribute the oil evenly. Leave it on for 30 minutes to a few hours, or even overnight for deep hydration. Wrap your hair in a towel or shower cap to avoid staining your bedding.

Wash your hair with a mild shampoo to remove oil. You'll probably have to shampoo twice to completely remove the oil...but the result is worth it! Use hemp oil once or twice a week depending on your hydration needs and how your hair responds.
