CrossFit, benefits but also risks of injury
CrossFit is a fitness program that mixes strength and cardio exercises. The workouts are varied, intense and based on functional movements, which we use in daily life , such as pushing, pulling or lifting.
CrossFit is practiced with weights, ropes, rings and sometimes cardio machines. Each session lasts a little less than an hour (usually) and includes a warm-up, a technical section to learn or perfect the movements, an intense main workout and sometimes a "cool down" in which we stretch and reduces the rate of breathing.
CrossFit aficionados generally aim to improve their strength, endurance, mobility and the aesthetics of their physique.
Like any sport, CrossFit can expose practitioners to certain risks of specific injuries:
- Deadlift): this movement can cause back injuries, including lower back pain, particularly if the technique is not mastered or if the weight is too heavy;
- Snatch and Clean & Jerk: These Olympic lifts consist of a fast, explosive movement that can lead to shoulder injuries as well as wrist and back problems;
- Kipping Pull-ups: This type of pull, which uses a rocking motion, can put strain on the shoulders and lead to tendinitis or soft tissue damage to the shoulders;
- Box Jumps: Repetitive box jumps can cause impact injuries like tendonitis, especially if landing technique is not correct;
- The squat : poor alignment or execution can lead to knee injuries, including patellofemoral syndrome or meniscal damage;
- Wall Balls: Throwing a heavy ball against a wall and catching it in a squat can lead to shoulder or back injuries due to repetition of the movement and muscle fatigue.
CBD, the Crossfiteur’s cannabinoid
More and more Crossfiters are integrating cannabidiol (CBD) into their daily diet. It must be said that this legal and non-psychotropic cannabinoid, extracted from the hemp plant, ticks all the right boxes for practitioners.
CBD interacts with our body's endocannabinoid system, which in turn regulates important physiological functions such as mood, stress response, sleep and metabolism.
CBD is above all a soothing and relaxing substance. Consumers who supplement with cannabidiol can reduce stress and anxiety, while boosting their motivation. Everything you need to put yourself in the best mental condition and surpass yourself in each session!
Next, CBD is a powerful anti-inflammatory which does not present the side effects common to drugs of this type. It helps relieve muscle pain and joint stiffness and accelerate recovery after an intense session.
Finally, CBD promotes healthy and restorative sleep by accelerating the falling asleep phase to combat insomnia. It is also an excellent natural remedy for paradoxical sleep disorders such as nocturnal verbalization and waking up in the middle of the night.
