CBD oil : how to store it to extend its shelf life?

As a general rule, CBD oils are intended for quick consumption. With a 30 ml bottle and a pipette that yields 1 ml, your bottle will be used up in between 15 days and a month, depending on dosage and frequency of use.

However, there may be times when you need to stock up, or want to take a break from CBD to try another non-psychotropic cannabinoid such as CBG, CBN or CBC. So how do you store your CBD oil to prolong its shelf life?

Storing CBD oil: first a question of container

Don't go storing your CBD oil in a plastic water bottle emptied for the occasion. CBD oil is in a tinted glass container, and not elsewhere. This type of glass will protect the liquid from UV rays which risk accelerating the degradation of precious cannabinoids.

Amber, blue or green colored glass bottles and vials are perfect for this task. They are effective, but also aesthetic, since they give a very charming little vintage pharmacy side to your shelf!

Also make sure the container has a tight-fitting lid. Air is the enemy of freshness, and a good cap will prevent oxidation and keep the CBD oil in excellent condition. If the lid is a dropper type, check that it is perfectly airtight.

Finally remember to label your bottle. Write down the opening date and estimated expiration date of your CBD oil (depending on your manufacturer).

CBD oil is sensitive to temperature and humidity

The good conversation about CBD oil doesn't stop at the choice of container. Just remember that you simply need to protect it from UV and heat.A cupboard protected from light or a cool drawer will do the trick.

If the liquid is exposed to direct sunlight, on a window sill, you risk breaking down the cannabinoids and ending up with CBD oil without any virtue. Tinted glass cannot completely block UV rays if exposure is direct and prolonged.

Also be careful with the heat. Do not store your CBD oil near a kitchen appliance or radiator. The ideal temperature is around 15 to 20 degrees Celsius. Also avoid extreme temperature fluctuations, as they can cause condensation inside the bottle, which will, again, compromise the quality of the oil.

What is the average lifespan of CBD oil?

Don't panic. Your CBD oil will accompany you for a very long time. We have an average lifespan of between one and two years, if we assume that it is preserved according to the rules of the art.

But be careful, if you notice changes in the texture, color or smell of CBD oil, it is starting to lose its properties. However, it will not present any risk to your health if it has not yet reached its expiration date.
