What is THCV?
THCV, or tetrahydrocannabivarin, is a naturally occurring cannabinoid, typically extracted from the Cannabis L. Sativa and Cannabis Indica strains of the hemp plant. Its chemical structure is similar to that of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is the molecule responsible for the psychotropic and euphoric effect of cannabis, with one difference: THCV has a side chain with three carbon atoms, compared to five atoms for THC.
The THCV therefore consists of 21 carbon atoms, 30 hydrogen atoms and 2 oxygen atoms, and has the molecular formula “C19H26O2”. This structural difference gives THCV slightly different properties to THC… including an appetite suppressant action!
THCV, an appetite suppressant cannabinoid according to two studies
A study published in the Journal of Cannabis Research (vol. 2) reveals that THCV exerts the same effects as natural appetite suppressants such as oats, apples, almonds and green vegetables, but without calories!
Like all cannabinoids (such as CBD, CBN, CBC, etc.), THCV interacts with the receptors of the endocannabinoid system to regulate a certain number of physiological functions such as sleep and immunity. , mood, appetite... If CBD is more focused on the functions of mood and sleep, THCV seems to act preferentially on appetite receptors and, more particularly, satiety, to promote this feeling and limit food intake.
Another study in 2007, presented at the 4th IACM Conference on Cannabinoids in Medicine, showed that mice treated only with THCV spent significantly less time eating compared to other subjects. However, when THCV was combined with THC, the rodents did not lose weight or show a decreased appetite.
These results therefore underline the potential of THCV as a supplement for appetite control and weight management, but in a THC-free formula.
Is THCV legal in France?
As of this writing, the sale and consumption of THCV is authorized. However, you should know that at high doses, this cannabinoid causes a slight euphoric effect, as its molecular structure is very close to THC. Also, it has some side effects such as temporary increase in heart rate, dry mouth and some digestive discomfort.
For all these reasons, we believe that THCV is in a gray area from a legal point of view. This is why 321CBD does not offer any products containing this cannabinoid. On the other hand, in our online store you will find good, healthy and 100% traceable CBD products to improve your daily well-being!
