CBD against chronic pain in the scientific literature

In 2020, researchers at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom conducted a study of reference on 103 patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Results: Using a CBD gel, applied topically for 8 weeks, can significantly reduce the sensation of pain and joint stiffness to promote better mobility (compared to a placebo).

Another clinical study carried out in Germany included 56 patients suffering from moderate to severe chronic pain in back level. The latter received CBD orally over a period of 4 weeks. The results demonstrated “a significant reduction” in pain and an improvement in the quality of sleep of patients, again compared to a placebo.

CBD against neuropathic pain

CBD is also said to be effective against neuropathic pain, which is a form of chronic pain resulting from nerve damage.

A study carried out in 2018 by the National Institute of Health (NIH), involving 25 patients with of neuropathic pain, revealed that oral intake of CBD for six weeks significantly reduced the sensation of pain and improved the quality of sleep of the participants.

Remember that the experimentation with medical cannabis carried out in France under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and the ANSM relates, among other things, to neuropathic pain.

CBD and cancer pain: a palliative approach?

A 2016 study by MD Anderson Cancer Center of 17 patients with advanced stage cancer demonstrated that the combination of CBD and Nabilone* significantly reduced pain compared to nabilone alone.

Preliminary research also suggests that CBD may be beneficial for post-chemotherapy neuropathic pain. Indeed, a study carried out in 2020 by the University of Turin on 17 patients showed that taking CBD orally for 4 weeks significantly reduced pain and improved quality of life compared to a placebo.
