The ANSM bases its decision on scientific data and feedback from the field
After banning HHC and its derivatives a year ago, almost to the day, the ANSM now includes H4CBD, a synthetic cannabinoid, in its list of narcotic products. L The agency mentions “consumption cases with severe effects reported to the evaluation and information centers on drug dependence-addictovigilance (CEIP-A)”.
In December 2023, Le Parisien reported the incident of an evening which had degenerated after the consumption of H4CBD candies: of the ten people present, seven had to be admitted to hospital, suffering from vomiting, convulsions and anxiety attacks.
Since September 2023, the ANSM has recorded 90 cases of synthetic cannabinoid poisoning, mainly attributed to H4CBD, and nearly 40% of cases required emergency care or even a hospitalization.
ANSM also attacks other synthetic cannabinoids
In its press release, the ANSM mentions other bans, mainly on cannabinoids with complex names but with a structure similar to H4CBD and the former banned synthetic cannabinoids. These include 5F-SGT-151 and 5F-Cumyl-P7AICA, products which were until now sold legally on the web or in specialized stores in the form of resin, powder or liquid .
Their use has, since June 3, 2024, been punishable by one year in prison and a fine of 3,750 euros.
The ANSM also includes THCA in this black list, which raises questions given its natural presence in hemp and its derivatives such as flour, oil or straw, where it is sometimes present in large quantities. .
The question remains open concerning THCV, another natural component of hemp, the regulation of which remains uncertain at present.
